Dr. Cynthia Sweeney
Learning is a lifelong journey, and at SAI, we are committed to helping every student move forward with confidence. With over 18 years of teaching and leadership experience across suburban, urban, and post‑secondary settings, I’ve dedicated my career to understanding how students learn—and how to support them when comprehension becomes a barrier.

Throughout my work as an English teacher, reading specialist, and English Language Learner Compliance Specialist, I noticed a consistent challenge: many students struggled to connect oral language, syntactic knowledge, and printed text. Even with strong instructional strategies in place, comprehension gaps persisted. Students needed more than reminders—they needed a structured, research‑based way to interact with text so they could truly understand what they were reading.
This realization led to the development of ReaCT—Reading Comprehension Technique.

What Is ReaCT?
ReaCT is a structured approach that teaches students to analyze text through the narrative and syntactic structure of individual sentences. By breaking down sentences, examining how ideas connect, and understanding how authors build meaning, students learn to:
Interpret ideas within paragraphs and passages
Recognize differences in sentence structure
Understand an author’s purpose and method of development
Apply comprehension strategies across all content areas
Because comprehension is deeply tied to syntactic knowledge, ReaCT gives students the tools they need to decode not just words, but ideas.
